Three obstacles
The body is a well tuned machine that does our bidding. We take it for granted until something happens to it be it an accident or an illness. Even a temporary sickness such as fever, chills and cough can incapacitate us. In the normal course of events, until such an illness passes, one cannot resume enjoying life. Perhaps these temporary ailments come as a blessing in disguise to remind us how precious and precarious life really is. The mind is not immune to ailments. Probably the three biggest impediments to infinite bliss and happiness are laziness, ego mentality and jealousy. These are the chronic “fever, chills and cough” of the mind. If we are able to remove these three obstacles from the mind, life would dramatically change and with that change comes a new perception of the world.
The world is always has and will always be a beautiful place. We only have to recognize and value it as such. The three mental obstacles of laziness, ego mentality and jealousy make us greedy and self centered. The “pus” that comes out of the mind creates an experience of the world that is undesirable to us. The body may not be easily healed at times, but the mind can be easily healed provided we give ourselves a strong dose of the medicine of will power. Every breath we take in brings in fresh air to the body. We can charge each incoming breath with a positive affirmation such as a thought of universality of all human beings. This “mental breath of fresh air” will sweep away the winds of sickness that may be blowing through the mind.
Negativity does not come to us spontaneously, it appears so as long as we cling to it. Once we let it go, positivity will be revealed. We don’t necessarily need to import it from the world as it is our underlying nature. Rather we should to export positivity into the world. Like trees that take in carbon dioxide and release life giving oxygen, we should develop the strength to digest negativity that others may show us without creating an illness in the mind; and we should recycle that energy into positivity.
Death is certain to come to all of us. The only 3 questions worth thinking about are
1. Who are we?
2. Where did we come from and where are we going?
3. How much time do I have?
These questions will always remain unanswered as long as the mind is handicapped by laziness, ego mentality and jealousy. When there is unending bliss, the answers to these questions may be, we are bliss, we come from and merge back into bliss and in a blissful state we are eternal.
