The value of life and how to use it
In today’s world, short-term goals are given more importance. People are blind to the big picture and the welfare of the world in the long run. It is like living by the light of a lightning strike forgetting that the sun and the moon shine their light on us consistently and they are the true sustainers of life on earth and not a big, bright bolt of lightning. When politicians, judiciary, police and anti-social elements focus purely on selfish gains and take the gratification of those desires as the goal of this precious life, not only are they and their immediate family affected but also the society in general.
Desires are ever present in the mind and we run from one to another. Imagine driving a car at great speed. One would have to be extremely careful in braking, turning, overtaking and would have to have a high level of awareness in order not to crash. Similarly, when desires drive the mind, thoughts travel at great speed and unless we are careful, we can end up making blind and rash decisions, the consequences of which may remain with us our entire lives.
Building up good qualities may be a slow process but once they accumulate, they form a great reserve of energy. Just like a lake whose waters can be used for many useful purposes, we can use the positive energy we accumulate for the benefit of others. We must be careful they do not leak out of us through our negative thoughts and actions. A dry lake bed serves no useful purpose.
Just as the moon reflects the sun’s light, our mind should reflect the light of our soul. A bright full moon is beautiful and is loved by all. Similarly, a positive mind imparts beauty to the world around us. Imagine if all of the billions of people demonstrated this positivity. The world would permanently change for the better.
Blessings to all
