Swamiji's wife - Maaji
Ammal, born in 1959 at Aarpakkam near Kancheepuram to her parents sriDoraiswamy and SmtGyannammal in a priestly class family of rich tradition and religious background. She was born in a cart while crossing the river at the Sangam(tri junction point of three rivers namely Parar, Theyyar and Ponnai) during sunrise. Hence the Udaya kumara born during sunrise, spreading rays of light and brightness to all beings on the earth. Parents were basically agriculturists & were serving the temple as priests.
As a child, her intuition powers were so great that she could predict happenings well in advance.
She met her prospective husband names Ponnurangam during a village festival, who happened to be a distinct relative. The groom’s grandfather was a great vaidhyam and astrologer and a disciple of RamanaMaharshi. Sri Ponnurangam, working in Bangalore was not inclined in religious of medical practices unlike his ancestors. Ammal’s parents initially refused her marriage to Sri Pionnurangam but he persisted and waited for 2 years, as he had special interest in the girl. Finally the parents agreed & solemnised her marriage to Sri Ponnurangam in 1975 at RatnagiriMurugan temple.
She expressed her desire immediately after marriage to seek a promise from her husband to build a temple or which Sri Ponnurangam agreed subject to financial position.
The family shifted to Bangalore, within 2 months after marriage Sri Ponnurangam secured a government job and carried on business activity (1st vegetable then provision shop) in between shifts supervised by UdayaKumari Ammal, with her intuitive powers she used to advise her customers & solve many of their problems. As a result the business flourished with a lot of customers.
She trained her husband in intuitive powers and encouraged him to study and practice Astrology. During pregnancy she would predict male child be born each of three times and in reality three male children would be born to her.
With meagre resources she raised all the three children and educated them. An excellent made for each other relationship with husband resulted in peaceful coexistence and they faced the problems and resolved them jointly. Hardly she had visited her parents’ house as she discharged responsibilities in a big way, she was a source of strength to her husband, imbibed good values and guided him to hard work with clean habits. Work is worship was her motto and believed in not wasting time as time is precious. She advised all to think and act in contribution to mankind & society rather than expecting rewards, wastage in any form should be discouraged & things that can be recycled should be recycled.
Every day is a good day & believed in prayer and meditation. The children’s were taught to do their daily chores themselves. So healthy were the family members there was no need for medical attention.
