The Engine of a Nation
In a large and diverse country like India, there are many factors that are common to all parts of the country. One such common thing is railways. Train tracks connect the remotest parts of the country with the major cities. A train track cannot be one size gauge in the cities and another size in the countryside and villages, it is always uniform. The country can be compared to train tracks. Without people, there is no country. And in the eyes of a nation, all people are alike. Just as we cannot differentiate between train tracks laid in one part of the country from those laid in another part, we should also not differentiate between people from various parts of the nation and from different backgrounds.
Just having a network of train tracks is not enough. We also need trains. Each train has a dedicated engine that pulls compartments or boxes full of people and goods. The law of the land is like the engine of the train. No matter where a train’s engine goes, it follows the tracks that are laid in front of the train. Similarly, the laws and judgments apply uniformly to all parts of the country and should serve the best interests of the people while also maintaining the safety and integrity of the nation.
Compared to road and air, trains are able to pull tremendous loads quite easily. The compartments that are linked to the engine of a train are like the people of this country. Just like every compartment is linked to one another and ultimately to the engine which pulls them, all people are linked to one another and everyone is tied to the law of the land which is like the engine of the train.
The people who are given the responsibility to safeguard and implement the laws are the judges in various courts of the country. They are like the drivers of the train. The most essential and important person on the train is the driver. Without him or her, the train cannot move. Following rules and course of the track is the responsibility of the driver. A train driver is also the first one to spot problems with the tracks, report them and can take corrective action immediately to protect his train and those to follow. Similarly, judges are very important to our country. They drive the course of the law through their work. They can help the nation by identifying potential problems and offer guidance to protect the people and the nation in the future. Just as a train driver is given a prime place at the front of the train without disturbance of passengers in the compartments behind the engine, judges should be allowed to carry out their important duties. They are like the eyes of the country. If a train driver is sleepy, it may result in an accident. Similarly, if the judges are not alert and careful, the progress of the nation may be derailed.
Train tracks, engines, and compartments will have to be carefully maintained in order for travel to be smooth and safe. Similarly, for a country to progress, everyone should be seen as equal in the eyes of the law, judges should be respected and their judgments should be done with a neutral mind keeping the law of the land as the guide. Whether it is a train, tracks it travels on, the engine, or the compartments they all have one common ingredient, steel. Steel, when it comes from a foundry, looks the same, but the end product is different. Similarly, we all play different roles but fundamentally, we are all the same, human beings.
We have one nation and one set of rules. Let’s follow them and keep ourselves and fellow citizens safe.
Blessings to all
