Modern Day Trinity
Swamiji says
Modern Day Trinity
Those who determine the course of our nation can be put in one of three groups. The modern-day trinity. First come elected leaders, the political class. They are supported by lawyers and the judiciary. Finally, the local community leaders who are at the grassroots and help in ensuring that the policies and programs of the government are implemented properly and responsibly. They are the creators and preservers of the nation’s well being and have the power to destroy what is not in the nation’s best interest. They may be compared to Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver and Shiva the destroyer. As long as creating and preserving the right thing and destroying the wrong things for the country are followed by our leaders and those who wield power, we are assured of prosperity.
However, some elements in this modern-day trinity of political leaders, lawyers and community organizers are focused on enriching themselves and generations of their families. They are neither the owners nor the generators of the nation’s wealth. The hard working men and women of this country collectively determine the nation’s wealth. Those in power are simply custodians who are tasked with transferring wealth to those who need it most such as the down trodden sections of society. The best they can do is to preserve the nation’s wealth for the future and not destroy the potential for wealth creation.
Politicians, community leaders and lawyers are like air, fire and water. These three vital elements are essential for our survival. But these elements can also be agents of mass destruction like tornadoes (air), volcanoes (fire) and tsunamis (water). Just as anyone in the path of a tornado, erupting volcano or a tsunami are in danger, if those in power misuse it, they and their families will be in the path of danger before anyone else. The mind will be deluged with negative thoughts, the fire of greed will burn down any potential for mental peace and they will suffocate in their own misery. If the mind is not peaceful, not amount of money or power matters. Furthermore, money, fame and power cannot buy mental peace.
We are all here for a short time. When we are given the privilege of wielding power, we must use that power properly for creating and preserving happiness and destroying evil. That is true humanness. Our happiness lives in the happiness of others.
Blessings to all
